The CSIS Department will host the 23rd Annual Document Engineering conference this coming week. Document Engineering takes a broad view of tasks associated with document handling and analysis. A small sampling of tasks considered are digitising hand-written, historical records e.g. death records; optical character recognition systems (that inspired much of the explosion in AI's artificial neural nets); document discovery in the legal profession; markup languages for representing documents; collaborative authoring of documents; algorithmically improving the layout of newspaper articles.
