The School of Architecture and Product Design at the University of Limerick are pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Mull as Adjunct Professor of Architecture. This adjunct professor role will support the work of The Global Free Unit and the development of a new Masters in Urban Design with the Kharkiv School of Architecture focussed on recovery and reconstruction. In honour of his new role, Professor Mull will give an introductory lecture at 4pm on the 18th December at the Architecture Studio CG042 University of Limerick’s Plassey campus.
Professor Mull’s appointment will strengthen SAUL’s ongoing work to address the climate crisis, conflict, and war by working directly with those most affected by these events – the ground breaking work of Professor Grainne Hassett at the Calais migrant encampments, Professor Hassett’s development of the Spatial Justice unit at SAUL, and the work of the Global Free Unit in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, Turkey, and now Kharkiv.
The reconstruction of Ukraine presents a chance to define new models of architecture and urbanism that will have a significant impact, not only in Ukraine but also in other communities facing the challenge of rebuilding and worsening climate change. Among Professor Mull’s first engagements with SAUL in January, a cohort of 80, professionals, students and teachers from Ukraine, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Norway and the UK will converge in Warsaw and Lviv with a collective mission to create sustainable solutions addressing Ukraine’s urgent need for a sustainable recovery. Their proposals will span from the scale of a single housing unit, to entire micro-districts to the scale of the Dnipro River.
All are welcome to attend
