3rd Year, Aeronautical Engineering student, School of Engineering.
Supervisor: Dr Kyriakos Kourousis, Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering. He also serves as the Programme Director for the airworthiness undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
Project Title: Prediction of the low cycle fatigue life of additively Manufactured ti-6ai-4v
"Through the University of Limerick Faculty of Science & Engineering scholarship programme, this summer 2022 I was given the opportunity to work with Dr Kyriakos Kourousis on a new low cycle fatigue life prediction model specifically for 3D printed metals. The application of this model is made on an actual 3D printed titanium alloy, which is widely used for aircraft critical parts. Thanks to the support of the scholarship, the results of our research project are going to be reported in a journal paper.
The experience in research I have gained has been a fantastic building block and just what I need as I enter my fourth-year Bachelor degree in Aeronautical Engineering starting my final year project. I wholeheartedly see myself working in research and development as a career choice and thanks to the support of this scholarship and Dr Kourousis, who gave me my first chance, that dream is closer than ever." - Muhammad Nasir
