Leonard O’Sullivan is a Full Professor in Ergonomics and Human Factors. He is a Chartered Ergonomist with a Ph.D. in Ergonomics/Human Factors, a Master’s degree in Safety and Ergonomics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Materials and Construction Technology.

Prof. O’Sullivan is a Fellow of the Irish Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (UK), member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (USA), Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (UK), and Member of the Institute of Designers of Ireland.

He is Director of the Rapid Innovation Unit (RIU www.riu.ie). RIU is specifically focused on the application of innovation and design in healthcare to help solve clinical challenges for which there are no current or adequate solutions available.

Research Interests

Leonard’s research interests are focused on the application of Ergonomics and Human Factors in user centered design of product and work tasks. He has a specific interest in the application of 3D printing in the design and manufacture of medical devices and also in the design of assistive technology to aid humans.
