Field Biology Unit
The Field Biology Unit (FBU) is a horticultural facility within the grounds of the University of Limerick which consist of a greenhouse, polythene tunnel, field site and a laboratory that is used for teaching and research activities. The FBU is located to the rear of Kilmurry student village, on the banks of the River Shannon, a short walk from the Science and Education building. It is an important resource within the department of Biological Sciences.
The area provides important facilities and equipment for various department research groups, specialising in soil, plant and crop growth, equine nutrition among others areas. . Further to this, the FBU supports undergraduate laboratories, particularly Horticulture and modules with plant growth experiments. Horticulture is a module taken by students of Biological Sciences (LM092) who chose the Agricultural Science elective, the students learn about the principles and practice of Horticultural science.
Food Grade Lab
Our onsite lab where food ingredients or products can be produced, mainly for human intake. Student who are completing a Food Science and Health course can use this lab.

- Bench Mixer
- Blender
- Bench Pasteurisation unit
- Bench Ice cream unit
- Fridge/Freezer
- Magnetic hot plate
