On Wednesday, 18th October 2023, Student Sustainability hosted its third installment of the SDG Conversation Series, focusing on Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) - Good Health and Wellbeing. This week's speaker, Cllr Daniel Butler, brought a wealth of experience as the Health and Wellbeing Improvement Officer in the HSE and Chairperson of MyMind Centre for Wellbeing Limerick.
A proud graduate of UL, Cllr Butler's tenure as the Mayor of Limerick (2021-2022) and his involvement in numerous significant initiatives across the city provided valuable insights into promoting health and wellbeing in the community. His diverse background and expertise promised an enlightening discussion on the importance of prioritising health within the framework of sustainable development.
Throughout the session, Cllr Butler shared his experiences and perspectives on addressing health challenges, fostering mental wellbeing, and promoting equitable access to healthcare services. Participants had the opportunity to engage with Cllr Butler, gaining valuable insights into strategies for advancing SDG 3 objectives at both local and global levels.
By emphasising the significance of good health and wellbeing, Cllr Butler underscored the critical role that individuals, communities, and institutions play in achieving sustainable development goals. Through collaborative efforts and informed action, we can strive towards building healthier, more resilient societies for present and future generations.
The UL Student Sustainability Conversation Series invites exceptional individuals to speak to students in the University about their professional and personal experiences, centrally themed around a UN Sustainable Development Goal. We do this to showcase to students the fantastic real-life work that takes place around us in advancing economic, environmental, and/or social sustainability, while providing students with worldviews and perspectives that inspire and challenge perceptions around effective sustainable development.
