On November 8th, 2023, UL Student Sustainability spearheaded a dynamic walking debate led by Zoha Panezai, focusing on Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. Participants delved into a spectrum of topics, igniting impassioned conversations and diverse viewpoints on water and sanitation issues.
The importance of SDG 6 cannot be overstated. Access to clean water and adequate sanitation is not only a fundamental human right but also essential for health, economic development, and environmental sustainability. By engaging in discussions around this crucial goal, participants gained a deeper understanding of the challenges and complexities involved in achieving universal access to clean water and sanitation.
Moreover, the walking debate highlighted the significance of teaching students the skills of discourse, understanding different worldviews, and actively listening, learning, and sharing diverse and sometimes opposing perspectives on sustainability issues. In a rapidly changing world, where collaboration and innovation are key to addressing complex challenges, fostering meaningful understanding, partnerships, and solutions is paramount.
Through events like the walking debate, UL Student Sustainability empowers students to become effective communicators, critical thinkers, and agents of positive change. By providing opportunities for open dialogue and respectful exchange of ideas, the organization nurtures a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation, laying the groundwork for a more sustainable future.
