The CCJVS has a strong research focus in examining offending behaviour from a socio-legal and criminological standpoint, exploring key themes in offender management both prior to entering the formal criminal justice system and upon release from prison.
Research within the Centre looks at how penal policies deal with young and vulnerable offenders, female offenders, drug crime, prison violence, as well as exploring the ramifications of community-based sanctions and restrictions of particular groups, such as sex offenders.
The aim of this research is to impact policy reform in the field and many of our members have appeared before Oireachtas Committees to provide expert opinion on offender management issues.
