Leadership in Healthcare

Leadership and how leaders develop is a key concerns for healthcare organisations today. Leadership usually manifests itself within the hierarchy of a healthcare organisation, however, because of the complexity of the healthcare structure, leadership needs to be enacted across the whole organisation and not just at the apogee.

Most healthcare organisations today operate in a customer-focused market arena where the definition of “duty of care” is continually upgrading, presenting change as the only stable. To further compound this, the change that is taking place has become more complex, requiring a higher level of skill and understanding for healthcare leaders.

Research shows that leaders are formed as opposed to developed, therefore the aim of the research is to develop evidence to support the design and development of organisational structures that allow leaders to emerge and form throughout all levels of the organisation.
