Prof Donald Truxillo (KBS, University of Limerick) receives title of Distinguished Visiting Professor from University of Trento, Italy
Prof Donald Truxillo was given the title of Distinguished Visiting Professor by the University of Trento, Italy for his many years of collaboration with the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science. The title was given for his sustained work with the Department on the psychology of workforce aging. Since 2007, the Department has hosted Prof. Truxillo as a visitor on a regular basis. He also received two Fulbright grants to support his work in Trento. Since 2010, he has been a member of the University of Trento’s doctoral school, contributing to the training of numerous masters and PhD students.
His work with the Department has focused on the study of age and work from a psychological standpoint – an issue of increasing importance with longer lifespans and later retirements.
As part of the award ceremony on 24 October, Prof Truxillo gave a lecture on his areas of research: age stereotyping and discrimination; the design of work from a psychological standpoint for different life stages; and most recently, on successful aging at work. He also discussed how organizations and societies can support people across the lifespan to maintain well-being and performance. The ceremony was followed by a panel discussion among politicians and labour leaders from the Province of Trento on how to manage the aging workforce.
An interview with Prof Truxillo is available on the website of the University of Trento Magazine.
