In a significant event highlighting the university's commitment to innovation and sustainability, the President of UL, Prof. Kerstin Mey, recently met with the MSc in Project Management students, acknowledging their exceptional achievements in the Global Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) Hackathon, illustrating the university's dedication to nurturing future sustainability and project management leaders.
The meeting, which served as a testament to the student's hard work and innovative spirit, was also a celebration of their notable success in the hackathon, a collaborative event organised by 12 Project Management Institute (PMI) Chapters across Europe in partnership with universities in France, Italy, Poland, England, and Ireland.
The students from the 2023/2024 cohort showcased a range of groundbreaking projects, each addressing critical sustainability challenges. These included Smart Bites, an app to promote healthy eating on campus; EcoSip, turning coffee waste into bioplastic; Wellnexa, a skin cancer prevention app; Ugly Foods, an initiative to reduce food waste; Team Forest’s River plastic removal system; EcoBlue's Smart Bins for campus waste management; and CarpUL, a sustainable campus carpooling app. Their achievements in various categories, from impactful solutions to best documentation and presentation, highlight the diverse strengths of the program.
