A miniature F1 racing track

University of Limerick hosted the 2024 National Finals of F1 in Schools, the official education challenge of Formula 1, on 31 May, 2024.

The one-day event attracted 164 school students, competing across 31 teams to gain a place on the podium, with Blitz Racing, Marist College earning first place.

In second place was Increvex, St Brigid's College and Revolution Racing, Gaelcholáiste Chéitinn Cluain Meala came third, all securing a place at the Aramco F1 in Schools 2024 World Finals; the global stage of the competition which is held annually alongside an international F1 Grand Prix.

The student teams put their talents to the ultimate test by racing the miniature F1 cars they designed and manufactured to a comprehensive set of technical regulations using professional CAD and CFD software. 

Assessed across a variety of areas - including car speed, engineering quality, brand identity and verbal presentation skills - by a panel of 30 industry professionals.

F1 in Schools has had a presence in Ireland for over a decade. Historically a high-performing country, four Irish teams have achieved a place on the World Finals podium to date.

“It was a thrilling showcase of their dedication, skills, and prowess in design, engineering, and racing. The event highlights the importance of STEM education in shaping brilliant minds for various exciting careers, not just in engineering and design, but also in business, project management, and countless other fields. It's a launchpad for future leaders – the world awaits, and they're ready to take the lead!”

Together, we worked to create a memorable experience for the teams as they competed against one another and put their cars to the test on the race track.”
