The Department of Education provides a grant to Primary Schools, Special Schools, and Post-Primary Schools to help cover the cost of assistive technology. The technology must be essential to allow a student with a disability access the curriculum. The school must prove that equipment will benefit the pupil during the school day, and that the school’s current technology cannot meet the child’s needs.
The grant can cover the full cost of technology. There is no upper limits to the amounts which can be awarded. Examples of technology covered by this scheme include laptops, tablets, software, braille equipment and audiology devices.
For more information on the scheme, view the Assistive Technology Grant webpage on Gov.ie.
