Former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese in her article in the Irish Times today cited the research of Dr Amanda Haynes and Dr Jennifer Schweppe and TENI conducted for the Call it Out Campaign. In the article, written on the 5th anniversary of the referendum for Marriage Equality in Ireland, McAleese says that the evidence,"is inescapable that there is still a long road ahead of us to eliminate the stresses of endemic bullying and other forms of homophobia and the anxiety they generate." Highlighting the absence of hate crime legislation in Ireland, she cites the Ireland and our LGBT Community report authored by Dr Haynes and Dr Schweppe, and highlights the fact that "one in three members of the LGBT+ community have been threatened with physical violence, and one in five punched, hit or physically attacked."
