Dr Sven Messing is a researcher at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Physical Activity and Public Health at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany). He has an interdisciplinary research profile with a Ph.D. in political science and 8+ years of work experience in the field of physical activity and public health. His research is focused on policies to promote health-enhancing physical activity across political sectors and at all political levels (international, national, regional, local). He was involved in the development of Germany’s National Recommendations for Physical Activity and Physical Activity Promotion, as well as the development of the Physical Activity Environment Policy Index (PA-EPI). Furthermore, he has conducted research at the intersection of physical activity promotion and climate action, and on physical activity in the context of human rights. He currently leads a project on the development of policy briefs for physical activity promotion geared at decisionmakers from policy and practice. From 2024 on, he will work for two years at the University of Limerick, funded by a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship and followed by a six-month placement at the German Federal Ministry of Health.
