Prof Ann MacPhail will promote us to think about the longevity / survival of PESP as a subject discipline and the necessity for us to engage with, and operate in, larger and inclusive arenas that encourage us to position PESP as a meaningful and worthwhile contributor to the common good. In doing this, Ann will explore the meaning of sustainability in PESP to date, encourage us to consider the extent to which our PESP endeavours are already aligned with sustainability and provide updates on proposed and ongoing activities of the UNESCO Chair in Physical Education and Sports Pedagogy for Sustainable Development.
Prof Marco Rieckmann will explore the role of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) within the context of Physical Education, Physical Activity, and Youth Sport. ESD is crucial in fostering not only physical well-being but also the broader values of sustainability, social equity, and global responsibility. He will also focus on the perspective from the German-speaking countries—Austria, Germany, and Switzerland—where ESD in physical education is being increasingly integrated into curricula and policy frameworks.
