University of Limerick was successful in securing a UNESCO Chair in Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy for Sustainable Development. Professor Ann MacPhail (Co-Director of PEPAYS Ireland) is named as the Chair and Professor Marco Rieckman from the University of Vechta, Germany is Co-Chair. PEPAYS Ireland is named as a partner and will play a central role in contributing to the objectives of the project, and specifically that of (i) developing and disseminating an innovative research agenda/portfolio that captures the pressing issues and potential synergies between physical education, sport pedagogy and sustainable development, with a view to directing stakeholders in meaningful research endeavours in the area, and (ii) establishing an international and sustainable network across academia, civil society, local communities, practitioners and policymakers that builds stakeholder capacity in physical education and sport pedagogy for sustainable development.
