The comics from the Culture Shocked! exhibition which celebrate cultural diversity are available to the public as a permanent collection. They are showcased on the walls of the Languages/Millstream building as well as the entrance of the UL Global office in the Main Building.
Culture Shocked! is a compilation of fifty illustrations depicting authentic testimonies of cultural misunderstandings with humour. The project led by Dr Florence Le Baron-Earle (School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics) brought together UL staff and students who shared personal anecdotes of intercultural encounters. The original artwork was created by students and alumni of UL: Julie Alquier, Megan Brophy, Edison Cai, Thomas Cunningham, and Lakeisha Lazo.
The illustrations are also available as a printed zine and are used as a tool for raising intercultural awareness and connecting the community, notably with international students, primary schools pupils, and incoming refugees. There is also an e-comic version available to download.
