Catherine Jeanneau, coordinator of the Language Learning Hub, has recently joined a team of researchers from Europe to deliver training and consultancy in European countries on fostering digital citizenship and digital literacy in the language classroom. The training activity will focus on the kind of tasks needed to help develop learners become social actors, capable of (inter)acting online in communities and with speakers of different languages and cultures and using digital technologies critically, ethically and responsibly.

Tools (including artificial intelligence) useful to foster autonomy and to complete the tasks will also be presented. The team, which includes researchers from France, Belgium, Finland, Ireland and Austria, will deliver training sessions to language teachers and language teacher educators and decision-makers throughout Europe. In 2025, events have already been planned in Montenegro, Estonia, Czechia and Greece.

The creation of this new team of experts coincides with the launch of the new Elang Citizen website of the ECML with 2025 being designated as the ‘European Year of Digital Citizenship Education’ by the Council of Europe.
