Naturally you will have moments in 3rd level when you question your course choice or career path, this is normal.

While some might think the only option left is to leave the university, it is always worth exploring all your options to make a well informed decision.

If you are thinking about discontinuing your studies, we would highly recommend speaking with your Course Leader, Academic Advisor, or a member of support staff.

An Internal Transfer is when a Student applies to change the course they are currently enrolled on within the University of Limerick.

There are 3 different stages of when a student can apply for an Internal Transfer:
 

  1.  Changing course in Semester 1 of First Year - UL| SSP (topdesk.net)
     
  2. Changing course in Semester 2 of First Year - UL| SSP (topdesk.net)
     
  3. Transferring course after First Year - UL| SSP (topdesk.net)

 

Any student considering a course change is advised to contact their Course Leader, Academic Advisor or a member of support staff.

Email SSO@ul.ie to be directed to the Student Support Officer for your Faculty.

Applications must be submitted to the Student Status Committee - the next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 29th, 2022.

A useful tip is also to go into the main building via the slanted glass entrance and follow the signs for Plassey House!

It is likely that making new friendship groups will be part and parcel of your experience of third level education and the beauty of a campus such as UL is that if offers so many outlets for you to meet new people and forge some lasting friendships.

Making new friends might appear daunting and that is completely ok, becoming a third level student provides lots of platforms from which you can start meeting people. Explore some of the following options;

  • Making friends, below are some high level tips about making friends. The full article on 'How to make friends at college or university' can be found here.

 

  1. Put yourself in places where potential friends are, and then meet and talk to them.
  2. Take the initiative to hang out with the people you seem to click with.
  3. Keep making plans and hanging out with these people you get along with and see where the budding friendship goes. Things can't work out with everyone, but some people will end up becoming friends of yours.
  4. Keep in mind that as we begin to see a return to life without Covid-19 restrictions, some people will continue to want social distancing and wearing of face masks - be respectful!
