SwimSafe

Many beaches in Ireland are unsupervised by lifeguards which leaves beachgoers vulnerable to dangers while swimming in the sea. SwimSafe is a high-speed rescue system for un-supervised beaches that solves this problem. The system utilises a combination of wristband and drone technology to rapidly assist swimmers in distress in the critical first few minutes. A wristband worn by the swimmer can be activated to transmit a geo-location emergency distress signal. An operator in a control centre can then pilot a drone from the docking station directly to the location of the incident. The drone delivers an inflatable ring buoy to the person in difficulty helping them stay afloat until the emergency services arrive. A single drone operator could protect a large number of beaches simultaneously. SwimSafe significantly enhances the potential to save lives in areas where beach lifeguards are unavailable.
