1. What inspired you to pursue a career in project management, and how has your own background shaped your role as Course Director?

Project management has always appealed to the problem-solver in me.  There's a thrill in taking a complex challenge, breaking it into manageable pieces, and devising a strategy that brings everyone together towards a common goal.  However, the true reward that fuels my passion is that sense of accomplishment when a project crosses the finish line.  Knowing that I've played a role in creating something of value, something that will have a positive impact, inspired me to dedicate my career to project management.

My background has been instrumental in shaping my role as Course Director.  Years of hands-on project management experience, from organisational change initiatives to a project of national importance, instilled in me a deep understanding of the real-world complexities our students will face.  This experience allows me to bridge the gap between theory and practice, illustrating concepts through relevant examples and preparing students for the dynamic nature of the field.

Additionally, my focus on sustainable practices stems directly from challenges I've encountered.  I believe project managers have a responsibility to drive positive change, so I integrated this focus into the programme's core.

Finally, my academic journey and commitment to mentoring translate into a strong emphasis on research rigour and a collaborative learning environment.  I aim to create skilled project managers and engaged members of a broader community dedicated to advancing the field.

2. As Course Director, what aspects of the MSc programme in Project Management  are you most passionate about, and how do you hope to impart this passion to your students?

I'm genuinely passionate about the strategic alignment within our MSc programme.  Project management shouldn't exist in a vacuum.  I aim to show students how projects become a powerful tool for driving organisations towards their overarching goals.  I do this by infusing case studies and simulations that link project decisions directly to core business strategy.

Additionally, I firmly believe project managers are increasingly responsible for leading sustainably.  That's why sustainability is a thread woven throughout our curriculum.  We examine environmental and social impacts, challenging students to make informed choices that positively influence their projects and communities.

Ultimately, my passion lies in creating a learning environment that's both rigorous and supportive.  I want to challenge students and nurture their growth by using diverse teaching methods, bringing real-world perspectives from experienced project managers, and providing opportunities to develop the leadership skills that will truly set them apart.
