Dr. Elaine Kinsella
Biography
Dr. Elaine Kinsella is a chartered organisational psychologist and associate professor in psychology, with seventeen years of experience in industry and academia. Her work focuses on creating and sharing new insights about the social influences on health and empowerment, particularly in contexts relating to work, organisations, and the community.Priority Research Projects
- The CV19 Heroes project: Tracking the psychological welfare of frontline workers in the UK and Ireland since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic (www.cv19heroes.com) with particular focus on social and political influences
- Social Predictors of Burnout: Examining social influences of psychological burnout within and beyond the workplace
- Strength from Others: Exploring the positive and negative effects of drawing psychological resources from external targets (e.g., heroes, leaders, role models) on individuals and groups
- Group Influences on Adjustment to Hardship and Trauma: Exploring how social groups and bonds influence adjustment to life transitions and trauma by supporting self- and emotion-regulation.
She is passionate about championing others' career development and fulfilment, particularly those working as early-career academics and researchers. She co-founded the EMerge (early and mid-academic career) network for academic staff at the University of Limerick in 2020 (Twitter: @EMerge_UL) which offers peer-support and career development opportunities for members.
She is a qualified coaching psychologist who uses these skills at work for more effective collaboration, leadership and research supervision.
