“…there are lots of alternatives to going to college and one of the really good alternatives is apprenticeships," Mr Leo Varakdar, 4th September 2020
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Minister Simon Harris highlight the role of apprenticeships as an important alternative route to upskilling and continuing education within the workplace. With benefits for both employer and employee, apprenticeships offer real opportunities in dealing with skill gaps, enhancing in-house knowledge and gaining qualifications for career progression.
As part of the July Stimulus package, an Apprenticeship Incentivisation Scheme was announced, designed to support employers to continue to recruit apprentices during the immediate Covid-19 period. Apprenticeship employers are eligible for a €3,000 payment for each new apprentice who is registered between the period 01 March and 31 December 2020.
