Mission: To advance interdisciplinary research in sport and human performance at the University of Limerick; to inform national and international best practice and through the creation of national and international collaborative networks; to achieve global recognition for the quality of its research outputs and graduate students.
The SHPRC will support the University’s 2019-2024 Strategic Plan “UL@50” and research strategy by:
- Building on an existing area of strength (Sport and Human Performance) and improve global recognition and ranking of Sport and Human Performance related research at UL.
- Achieving research outputs of high quality.
- Intensifying critical mass in areas of strength.
- Having a clear focus on research excellence with impact and convergent translation.
- Placing a strong emphasis on publication in high impact international journals.
- Providing a focus on mentoring and supporting early career researchers in Sport and Human Performance related research.
- Emphasising strong collaboration and knowledge exchange with strategic partners, both nationally and internationally.
- Strengthening international research collaborations and establishing new international networks.
- Diversifying our research funding in support of a sustainable programme of excellent research in the domains of Sport and Human Performance
- Forging a close alignment between teaching and research.
- Clustering researchers to achieve synergies and increase effective critical mass.
The SHPRC will support the Faculty of Education and Health Sciences (EHS) Research Strategy by:
- Enhancing the research ethos amongst EHS staff with relevant interdisciplinary expertise / research in sport and human performance.
- Increasing research capability and critical mass aligned with EHS research priorities
- Increasing research capacity and critical mass of PhD registrations within EHS.
- Increasing the level of collaborative and interdisciplinary research across the faculty and fostering multi-disciplinary synergies and collaboration.
- Helping to maximise the faculty’s research outputs through increasing research productivity in sport and human performance related research and publish and disseminate our high quality research in eminent journals.
