Brief Description
The active and dynamic curriculum of Ireland’s only specialist MSc. in Insurance and Risk Management equips learners with in-depth training in insurance, risk management, and finance. The streamlined 3-semester course is designed and led by expert faculty and industry practitioners to sharpen your technical capacity and objective reasoning, and make you a highly-employable prospect within the risk management, insurance, and financial services industry in Ireland and abroad. The delivery of the course is primarily face-to-face with hybrid elements blended into the course schedule. The course offers learners the opportunity to pursue two distinct capstone pathways that align with their career goals. Post-Masters scholarship opportunities available for learners pursuing financial risk management and sustainable finance careers, while exemptions are available for those pursuing insurance-related careers in the UK and Ireland.

Led by expert faculty and highly-skilled industry practitioners, learners on this course will be immersed in ongoing issues, themes, and innovations within risk management and insurance research and practice. Learners will appreciate the specific considerations and risk capture techniques used to assess and manage life and non-life risks, sustainability and climate resilience risks, and non-conventional and complex specialty risks. Learners will also master a variety of specialist subjects relating to finance, data science, and risk management, including corporate finance, capital markets, corporate sustainability, mathematical and predictive modelling, derivatives, and financial regulation.
Learners will be tasked with using a combination of computational techniques (data analytics, statistical analysis, Python coding) and evidence-based narrative inquiries (projects, essays, report-writing) to critically evaluate complex contemporary business, environmental, and socioeconomic events in the context of financial, risk and insurance theory.
This course receives special recognition from the Global Association of Risk Professional (GARP), the world-leading professional association for financial risk managers. Enrolled learners may avail of scholarship opportunities to pursue professional qualifications and accelerate their career in Financial Risk Management (FRM) and Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR).
This course also received special recognition from the Insurance Institute of Ireland (III) and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). Learners gain partial exemption from the pursuit of post-Masters professional qualifications provided by both associations due to the degree of overlap between the materials taught on the course and the knowledge required to attain professional qualification status.
Delivery and Pathway
The course follows a 3-semester structure that challenges learners to understand, think, apply, learn, and create in a multitude of live learning environment contexts. Learners specialise in a capstone pathway that aligns with their desired career path by following either a ‘research’ pathway’ or a ‘business analytics’ pathway. The delivery of the course is primarily face-to-face with blended elements incorporated into the course structure. Learners also gain access to use of a world-leading financial database which will be used to inform the learning materials being taught throughout the year.
