This MicroCred is designed to provide learners with content so that they can teach in post-primary schools in a safe, inclusive and meaningful way.

Students will learn through practical based labs and lectures. It is designed to provide the learners with content so that they can teach in post-primary schools in a safe, inclusive and meaningful way. Content Areas: Fundamentals of Outdoor adventure and water-based Education Curricular models that best serve the content Risk, Management and assessment Minimal environmental impact Outdoor adventure and water-based activities Water safety Injury and Illnesses.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion students will
- Show knowledge and breath of adventure education philosophy to include risk, challenge, problem solving, cooperation, and trust. (Creative and Reflective Practice)
- Analyse and show skill outdoor, adventure and water-based skills to provide critical and accurate learning cues and feedback.
- Become competent with the syllabi of Adventure and water-based activities for Junior Cycle students in second level schools.
- Apply knowledge of school protocols and legislation on outdoor adventure and water based activities to safe and effective planning.
- Recognise the fundamental aspects of the identified curricular model.
- Identify the unique aspects of off-site teaching.
- Build a broad knowledge base of activities and the ability to improvise and adapt them to diverse populations.
- Demonstrate responsible social and personal behaviour in physical activity, including respect for self and others. (Global Citizenship)
- Consider different environmental features when participating in adventure activities including landscape features, tide and weather variations. (Global Citizenship)
- Practice appropriate safety practices throughout all activities.
- Demonstrate competence and confidence in selected outdoor adventure and adventure and water based activity skills.
- Use digital resources as part of developing pupils' technological literacy. (Digital Skills)

Completion (or nearing completion) of an NFQ level 8 qualification or equivalent is required. Entry requirements are established to ensure the learner can engage with the course material and assessments, at a level suitable to their needs, and the academic requirements of the module. Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award.
