New Women in Aviation International Scholarship Programme Announced for the Kemmy Business School at UL
The new Women in Aviation International Scholarship programme is a partnership agreement between Women in Aviation International, UL’s Kemmy Business School (KBS) and the University of Limerick Foundation.
The initiative allows for the awarding of 11 scholarships for female students enrolled in the Professional Diploma in Aviation Leasing at the KBS, which is the first level 9 university-accredited programme in Ireland tailored for the Aviation Leasing sector.

This module will introduce the student to the key aspects of jet aeroplane fleet planning, focusing on the aircraft product and its performance capabilities. The objectives of this module are to provide students with a basic understanding of the key decision criteria for aircraft fleet planning. It will also introduce airworthiness and operational regulations and standard aircraft documentation. Students will also gain a technical understanding of the aircraft product including the cockpit, cabin systems cargo holds, engines, airframe structure, weight and balance, flight controls and other systems. structure, weight and balance, flight controls and other systems. Topics which will be introduced during the course of this module are: Fleet Planning within the Airline; An Industry Overview; Fleet Selection Process; Market Evaluation; Productivity Micro; & Macro Approaches; Segmentation & Spill; The Product; The Airline Product; The Aircraft Product; Aircraft Performance; Importance of Performance Weights; Payload Range Aircraft Fit; Aircraft Economics; Importance of Aircraft Economics; Costs Classified; Drivers of Operational Economics
Learning outcomes:
On the successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Describe the aeroplane product, demonstrating a technical understanding of the aeroplane’s cockpit, cabin systems, cargo holds, engines, airframe structure, weight and balance, flight controls and other systems.
- Explain the importance of airworthiness and operational regulations/specifications (i.e., FAR/CS 25, EU-OPS, 1/JAR-OPS 1) and standard aircraft documentation (e.g., operations/operating manual, minimum equipment list, maintenance planning).
- Analyse the key performance parameters of the aeroplane including the payload range envelope, take-off and landing distances and en-route performance (altitude and cruise speed) taking into account the influence of winds and atmospheric conditions.
- Demonstrate the ability to use the International Standard Atmosphere (ISA) as a model for aircraft performance.
- Explain the fuel planning policies and associated regulations (FAR 121, ICAO Annex 6, EU-OP 1/JAR Ops 1 including ETOPS).
- Conduct basic valuation and depreciation analyses.
- Appreciate the different factors that influence aeroplane selection for various carriers and the key decision criteria for aircraft fleet planning and their relative importance.
Assessment:
There is no final exam for this module.
You will be assessed through 1-2 continuous skill-based assignments, provided by your lecturer.
The programme is open to managers and supervisors from a variety of disciplines or those aspiring to a managerial role with three to five years organisational experience in a relevant field.
Completion of an NFQ level 8 qualification or equivalent is required.
Entry requirements are established to ensure the learner can engage with the course material and assessments, at a level suitable to their needs, and the academic requirements of the module. By applying to this micro-credential, you are confirming that you have reviewed and understand any such requirements, and that you meet the eligibility criteria for admission.
Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award. All programme applicants must meet the entry requirements listed if applying for a further award.
