This micro-credential represents a single module within a larger further award (eg. Certificate, Diploma, Masters). By taking this micro-credential you may be eligible to apply for a credit exemption should you progress to study for a further award. The programmes associated with this MicroCred are: 

This module will prepare practitioners to meet the needs of people with dementia from diagnosis to end-of-life. The module will address emerging guidelines in local, national and international policies and strategies and within the changing demography of people with dementia. It also provides practitioners with the opportunity to develop specific competencies and expertise in conducting holistic assessments for persons with dementia. Diagnostic procedures and stages of dementia will also be explored. Concepts of personhood, person-centred care and safe care are interweaved throughout modular content. CPE Modules on Website 

Learning Outcomes: 

On completion of the programme the student will be able to: 

  • Discuss the pathophysiology and the illness trajectory of dementia.

  • Critically evaluate the philosophy underpinning person centred dementia care.

  • Critically analyse policies and strategies that impact on dementia care

  • Appreciate the importance of family/carer relationships for the person with dementia.

  • Demonstrate specific competences and expertise in conducting holistic assessments for persons with dementia. 

 

  1. A Registered Nurse on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
  2. Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of either prior successful completion of a degree qualification taught through the medium of English or meet criteria identified in the English Language qualifications set by the University of Limerick.

Entry requirements are established to ensure the learner can engage with the course material and assessments, at a level suitable to their needs, and the academic requirements of the module. By applying to this micro-credential, you are confirming that you have reviewed and understand any such requirements, and that you meet the eligibility criteria for admission.

Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award. All programme applicants must meet the entry requirements listed if applying for a further award.
