Brief Description
This module explores the core concepts and theories of project management and relates them to the emerging phenomenon of programme management. It provides learners with a deepened understanding of project and programme related principles and associated strategic and operational frameworks, and how they might be integrated within a variety of organisational settings. This module provides the opportunity to explore new and developing theories that are useful in explaining project related phenomena within a variety of empirical settings.

Learning Outcomes
On the successful completion of this module participants will have;
- Developed an awareness of projects and programmes as temporary organisations
- Acquired knowledge of systems theory and thinking in the management of projects and programmes
- Examined the respective roles of projects, programmes and the PMO in delivering beneficial change
- Acquired a critical awareness of project and programme management Bodies of Knowledge and how they are used
- Analysed project and programme management processes and lifecycles and develop an awareness of their application and limitations
- Compared and contrast the knowledge areas within project and programme management and evaluate the most appropriate for any given context
- Critically evaluated frameworks for assessing project and programme management performance at an organisational level
- Appraised project and programme situations and apply appropriate tools, techniques and management processes to selected business problems
- Resolved programme level issues and challenges that arise in organisational change programmes
- Developed organisational success criteria and integrate within programme management frameworks and processes.
Assessment
Assessment will be based on a project, discussion forums and online engagement, and critical reflections.
Student Weekly Time Commitment
20 hours
Level 8 Primary Degree + minimum 4 years project management experience + interview. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is also accepted.

Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award. All programme applicants must meet the entry requirements listed if applying for a further award.
