The deadlines for postgraduate student grant applications to SUSI are fast approaching. SUSI, the Student Grant awarding authority, has advised that postgraduate renewal applications received by Thursday 9th June 2022 will receive priority consideration. New grant applicants should have their submissions to SUSI for priority consideration by Thursday 7th July 2022.

Kerri Ryan, UL Graduate Admissions Office, advised that the 'SUSI application portal for postgraduate students is now open. Receiving an early decision on your grant application provides you with greater certainty about the financial support that will be available to you.

Kerri continued, 'I would encourage students who think they might be eligible for support to submit their online applications to SUSI this month.'

As a first step, prospective postgraduate students should check their eligibility using the SUSI eligibility reckoner. (Am I eligible?)

A number of changes to the student grant scheme announced in Budget 2022 will come into effect in the 2022/23 academic year including:

  • The annual maintenance grant will increase by €200.
  • Income thresholds for all grant rates except the Special Rate will increase by €1,000.
  • The qualifying distance for the non-adjacent rate of maintenance grant will reduce from 45km to 30km.

Postgraduate students from low-income households, who meet the criteria for the special rate of grant under the Student Grant Scheme may be eligible to have their tuition fees paid, up to the maximum fee limit of €6,270, as well as receiving the special rate of maintenance grant of up to €6,115.

All other postgraduate students undertaking full-time approved courses can apply for a postgraduate fee contribution of €3,500 towards tuition fees.

Eligible students can apply online here.
