University of Limerick Graduate and Professional Studies is delighted to welcome a new Master of Science (MSc) in Molecular and Analytical Biosciences to its portfolio. The master’s degree is designed to equip graduates with the advanced skills and knowledge required to succeed in careers within biotechnology, biopharmaceuticals, advanced healthcare industries and academic research. Given the increasing demand for skilled graduates in these fields, this MSc serves as a vital stepping stone for those looking to enhance their bachelor’s qualifications and accelerate their careers in biosciences and biotechnology.
Molecular and Analytical Bioscience is a rapidly evolving field that plays a vital role in biopharma, biotechnology and biomedical research. Professionals in this area drive innovation by developing advanced diagnostic tools, cutting-edge biopharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals and sustainable bio-based materials.
The one-year, full-time MSc programme offers in-depth molecular and cell biology training, focusing on understanding of cellular dysfunctions in disease. Students on the programme will develop expertise in advanced cell biology, predictive modelling tools, cancer and precision medicine, advanced analytical techniques, and regulatory affairs, making them highly desirable to employers in biopharmaceuticals, biomedical research, environmental science and clinical diagnostics.
Graduates will play a crucial role in developing innovative disease treatments, designing sustainable biotechnological processes, and tackling pressing challenges in medical research and healthcare, ultimately enhancing lives worldwide.
Course director, Dr Andreas Grabrucker is a Professor in Cell Biology at the Faculty of Science and Engineering and researcher at the Bernal Institute at UL. Dr Grabrucker’s work aims to understand how genetic and non-genetic factors contribute to neuronal dysfunction and to develop novel research and treatment strategies using nanotechnology.
He said ‘ Graduates of this master’s programme will serve as catalysts for innovation, fundamentally transforming the landscape of disease treatment, engineering sustainable biotechnological practices, and tackling pressing challenges in medical research, thereby enhancing health and wellbeing on a global scale.’
Not only will students on this programme have the opportunity to study and learn from leading researchers in the field, they will also build their industry relevant skills, develop advanced laboratory and analytical expertise and develop pathways to research and innovation.
Applications to the MSc in Molecular and Analytical Biosciences will open in the coming weeks. In the meantime, prospective students are encouraged to express interest so they can be notified when the application portal is open. More details are available here.
