The Early Careers Event 2024 took place on the 8 and 10 October.
The Early Careers Event has been developed and designed to provide information to students and teachers on careers in healthcare. Healthcare professionals, students studying health sciences in University of Limerick and Technological University of the Shannon, together with the patient perspective, all combine to provide insights and information on studying and working in healthcare. We work with teachers and students every year to ensure that the programmes we deliver are providing the information which they require to make informed choices about studying and working in healthcare.
What is it?
This virtual live event is hosted by the Health Sciences Academy in conjunction with the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and Limerick Education Support Centre. It aims to provide information on careers and programmes of study in health.
It showcases healthcare as an option for further study and career opportunities. Building on the success of the past 4 years, and incorporating feedback from students, we have created this event to be as informative and interactive as possible.
Who is it for?
It is for Transition Year, 5th and 6th Year students who are curious to learn more about a career in healthcare, business in health and studying health sciences in University of Limerick.
What do students learn?
Students hear from
• Guest speakers including patient perspectives who share the role that healthcare professionals have had in their careers
• Healthcare staff working in hospital and community settings, sharing their career journey
• Students from University of Limerick who are studying health sciences (nursing, midwifery, medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, human nutrition & dietetics, psychology and paramedic studies) and business.
• University of Limerick staff gave advice on programmes
• Business in Healthcare professionals working in human resources and operational services
The live webinars were focused on students in post-primary schools and provide information on careers and programmes of study in health. More than 17 thousand students from all over Ireland attended last year's event.
Given the extremely busy nature of hospital settings, we understand that Transition Year students cannot come to hospitals or other clinical settings for work experience or tours, and so we have designed this event to be as informative and interactive as possible, showcasing healthcare as an option for further study and careers.
We look forward to the next event in 2025.
