Paul Burke has been a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at University Hospital Limerick, and St John’s Hospital since 1994. He has just completed his three-year tenure as Chief Clinical Director for the UL Hospitals Group. He was also the clinical lead during the Reconfiguration of Surgical and Emergency department services in the Midwest between 2008 and 2011.
He qualified from Trinity College Dublin in 1978. He was awarded fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons in London and Dublin in 1983 and was awarded a Medical Doctorate by Trinity College in 1988.
He has been Chairman of the Irish Association of Vascular Surgeons and a Council member of the European Society Vascular and Endovascular Society. He is also a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland.
Paul is currently a Council member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and was appointed an Adjunct Professor of Surgery at UL Graduate Entry Medical School in 2016.
Paul Burke has a career-long interest in research and education. He has over 80 peer-reviewed publications, the vast majority related to clinical and research aspects of arterial and venous disease. He has extensive clinical experience as a vascular surgeon and has been an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the Intercollegiate Fellowship in Surgery, and the European board examinations in Vascular Surgery.
