At the University of Limerick, we are committed to enabling lifelong learning and to supporting you to fulfil your academic potential. You may or may not have a formal qualification; however, you possibly have an abundance of relevant learning from life and work that we value highly. This learning could qualify you for programme entry, advanced entry, and exemptions from parts of modules or programmes. We value your prior learning and we're here to help as you start the next stage in your personal and professional development.
1. Information: This website will provide you with general information about RPL at University of Limerick and how the RPL process works. You can simply fill out our Expression of Interest form on this page and the relevant team at University of Limerick will contact you and provide you with specific information tailored to your needs. 2. Identification: You can then take the opportunity to explore your prior learning (e.g. in relation to a programme’s entry requirements or the learning outcomes of a module) with a view to making an RPL application.
3. Documentation: You will be invited to undertake a reflective process and gather relevant materials to substantiate your application.
4. Assessment: Your application is the assessed by the relevant team here at the University of Limerick. A range of assessment mechanisms may be used depending on the programme you are interested in (e.g. portfolios, interviews, essays, examinations, etc.).
5. Certification: If your application is successful, you will receive formal recognition or certification, which will lead to one or more of the following outcomes:
- Credit towards an award or exemption from some programme modules
- Advanced entry to a programme
- Entry to a programme
Appeals: If your application is unsuccessful (e.g. if we are not able to offer you an exemption or if we cannot accept you onto a programme of study through RPL), we will outline any available options or supports to you. You may avail of the appeals procedure that is in place, which will be communicated to you.
