Coffee table in the Regional Writing Centre
“This week was a fantastic opportunity to commit fully to writing and work out the bad habits/aversion I had developed towards writing”.

The PhD Writers’ Week January 2025 was a huge success.
We welcomed six PhD candidates to the Writing Centre from January 13th to 17th.
We had candidates from a variety of disciplines, ranging from Psychology to Accounting and Finance. Although they all came in with different timelines and disciplines, they all shared the same goal… Write! And that they did.
Our PhD Writers committed to starting at 9am every day and keeping their heads down till 2pm. The Writing Centre Director started the days with ‘writing about writing’ prompts, allowing those creative, writing juices to start flowing. They then discussed different writing strategies and shared their own experiences and advice on writing and time management.
As a group, and with the guidance of Lawrence Cleary, Writers’ Week facilitator, they motivated one another and provided support and advice to one another.
Each PhD candidate had a tutoring session with one of two tutors, Luke or Naa, to discuss writing difficulties they had been experiencing as well as their personal strategies and goals.
And of course, the food! We at the RWC facilitated an endless supply of teas and coffee, and of course a perpetually full plate of biscuits. The writers received a free lunch on the Monday and Friday, prepared by a local business, Delish.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and felt as though they had benefited greatly from the week.
To quote one PhD Writer, “This week was a fantastic opportunity to commit fully to writing and work out the bad habits/aversion I had developed towards writing”.
