The President’s Volunteer Award (PVA) formally acknowledges the significant role volunteering has in the life of UL students.

All PVA recipients are registered UL students, and all have contributed 12, 20, 40, 60 or more volunteer hours to numerous charities and organisations over the previous academic year. There are five Awards: Gold, Silver, Bronze, Plassey and Overseas.

To date, 5,148 UL students have received a PVA by completing a combined 291,482 volunteer hours.

The Student Volunteering Office (SVO) at the University of Limerick supports and promotes strong and meaningful links with internal and external clubs, societies, organisations and communities. We are committed to enhancing the experience of Higher Education (HE) students and our internal and external communities through emancipatory based civic engagement principles, activities and practices.

Since 2010, the President’s Volunteer Award (PVA) established through the SVO mirrors UL’s ‘Home of Firsts’ culture. It is the first HE student volunteer programme in Ireland that formally acknowledges (1) volunteering as significant in the life of our students and (2) the contribution our students make to our internal and external community-based organisations and services.

As such, the PVA’s robust criteria ensures that UL student volunteers commit to and reflect on. All PVA recipients are registered UL students, and all will have the required 12, 20, 40, 60 or more volunteer hours over the previous academic year approved. There are 5 Awards: Gold, Silver, Bronze, Plassey and Overseas.

To date 5,148 UL students have received a PVA through completing a combined 291,482 volunteer hours.

The Student Volunteer Ireland management system is designed to support, promote and record HE student volunteering and student led engagement with our internal and external communities across Ireland and beyond. Studentvolunteer.ie  is a free online gateway for clubs, societies, organisations and communities to promote their volunteer opportunities and to tap into a massive resource of willing and engaged young people.

We are so very proud of the contribution you choose to make. Your willingness to get involved contributes so very positively to your club, society, faculty, and community both on and off campus and indeed to the profile of UL students locally, nationally and internationally. So well done to you all. We also publicly acknowledge that sustaining and promoting civic engagement through volunteering is made possible through the support and collaboration of our President, our UL colleagues, and most particularly our community partners and HE colleagues across the sector
