Graduate profiles

I am from Connecticut, USA. I have been playing the harp for about 11 years now. My undergraduate degree was a BA in performance, and I wanted to expand my knowledge. I chose this course because I think the topics that it covers are interesting and it is a perfect combination of my favourite subjects, English, History and Music.

The course here at UL seemed to have the most diverse overview in that it covered the spectrum of skills a contemporary journalist needs to enter the field without veering too deeply into one particular discipline so much that it would neglect another.

Mostafa is a graduate of the MA Journalism programme and is originally from Eygpt. Mostafa describes his experience of the programme and his delight at recently winning Student journalist of the Year 2020 at the Student Media Awards (SMEDIAs).

My name is Tara McCormack and I am from County Offaly, I decided last year that I wanted to go back and pursue journalism. I have been in radio for the last eight years, I actually got into radio during my undergraduate degree at UL which was the BA in English and media, as it was known at the time.

Barbora is a graduate of the MA Music Therapy at the University of Limerick, she is originally from the Czech Republic and is currently pursuing her career goal of working as a music therapist. She gives her experience of the MA programme below and how it has benefited her both personally and professionally.

Diarmuid Boyle, a graduate of the MA in Music Therapy describes how completing the MA in Music Therapy has enhanced his academic and clinical knowledge and furthered his career goals. He currently works as a music therapist in Tipperary.

I learned so much over the course of the two years, on a diverse range of topics and from the most experienced professionals in the field. Musically speaking, we were challenged in a new and exciting way each week, and the group approach was both an inviting and inspiring way to learn. We learned many new skills and techniques on a variety of instruments, and how to implement it in a clinical environment.

Lisa is a graduate of the MA Music Therapy programme in UL. Lisa describes her experience of the programme and how this has benefitted her own personal and career goals.

At the point of applying for the course, I had over 25 years professional experience working in charities, non-profits and arts organizations. I didn't have a degree and I had always thought that perhaps one day I would go and do one.

MA in Public Administration graduate Neil O'Brien. Neil gives his insights of completing his MA in Public Administration.

I liked the interdisciplinary nature of the programme, the broad range of subjects makes the content transferrable to a variety of different settings. The course allows for flexibility in applying your learning to both the public and private sector . I will be honest the program was challenging but rewarding. There are a lot of transferable skills developed during the course of the Masters programmes such as critical thinking, creative thinking, and analytical skills.

I had an interest in doing an MA for a number of years but with working full time, I had to figure out what would work. This programme piqued my interest, particularly because it was offered online and part time, which suited me perfectly and was spread over two years, which was fantastic as well.
