The Centre for Implementation Research at UL (CIRcUL) was one of the six internal research centres approved by the Vice President Research Office in 2024. After an internal call, the following Internal Research Centres have been approved:

  • Ageing Research Centre
  • Centre for Battery and Energy-Related Materials Research
  • Centre for Implementation Research at University of Limerick
  • Centre for Sustainable Digital (Re)Manufacturing
  • Centre for Emerging Risk Studies
  • Data-Driven Computer Engineering Research Centre

This call for internal research centres sought to support the establishment and/or consolidation of research centres within UL.

Call applications were requested to outline the key benefits and value-add of the proposed new centre and their research focus, while also demonstrating how the centre’s activities can support the achievement of the University’s research strategy and priorities.

Applicants were required to provide a research plan, resource and growth strategy, and engagement/partnership plan for the centre.

The call was administered by the Post-Award unit within the Office for the Vice President Research (OVPR). This initiative is aligned with the Policy for UL Research Institutes and Centres: Establishment, Governance and Management Arrangements and supported as part of Research Strategy Wisdom for Action 2022-2027.

The Post-Award unit will work with the new centres to support their establishment. Supported by the Director of EDI, the unit will also work to ensure EDI principles are embedded in all centres.
