HRI's Ageing Research Centre (ARC) comprises an interdisciplinary group of academic researchers across University of Limerick, external academic collaborators, clinical collaborators and a Public and Patient Involvement panel of older adults and family caregivers. ARC’s impact is far-reaching, benefiting a diverse spectrum of stakeholders.
Exemplars of tangible advantages for older adults, the university, the research community, and broader society arising from research in the Centre will be outlined by Aoife Leahy, Consultant Geriatrician in Integrated Care of Older Persons in University Hospital Limerick/ MidWest Community Healthcare Organisation. Findings on the first definitive randomised controlled trial internationally to explore the impact of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment on older adults attending the Emergency Department will be presented in which older adults played a key role in study conceptualisation and interpretation of findings.
Assistant Professor Louise Barry, Department of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Limerick, and PhD candidate in the Ageing Research Centre , will present key learnings for future implementation and scaling -up arising from the findings of this study.
