On 9 May, the Health Research Institute (HRI) at the University of Limerick (UL) celebrated a momentous occasion – its 10th anniversary.
Held in the UL Pavilion boardroom, the event buzzed with a celebratory atmosphere as attendees, including esteemed guests and HRI members, came together to acknowledge a decade of groundbreaking research and chart a course for future collaborations.
Professor Norelee Kennedy, Vice President of Research for UL, played a pivotal role by formally launching the HRI's 2023 Annual Report.
Embracing sustainability, the Institute opted for a paperless approach, allowing attendees to seamlessly access the document via a QR code.
The event itself was a treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration. Distinguished speakers graced the stage, each offering a unique perspective:
- Professor Austin Stack, a former HRI Director, provided valuable insights gleaned from his experience at the helm.
- Professor Declan Lyons, a prominent figure in the field, delved into the exciting potential for collaboration between HRI and the Health Service Executive (HSE).

- Ms Christina Hayes, Chair of the Hub PG/PDOC Hub, shared her expertise, enriching the discussions.
- Professor Alan Donnelly, HRI Director, provided a captivating glimpse into the Institute's aspirations for the years to come.
Beyond the presentations, the event fostered a vibrant networking atmosphere.
It was a time to celebrate HRI's impressive ten-year journey, a journey marked by significant contributions to the field of health research.
More importantly, it was a time to look ahead, brimming with hope and excitement for the impactful discoveries and collaborations HRI will undoubtedly usher in for the future.
