CONTEXT

Name of Creator(s): Maxwell, Weldon & Co.

Administrative/ Biographical History: Maxwell, Weldon & Co. was a firm of solicitors operating from premises at 15 Eden Quay, Dublin in the early twentieth century.

Archival History: Purchased by Dr John Logan from John O’Dwyer, antiquarian bookseller, Old Charter School, Newport, County Tipperary. Earlier chain of custody unknown.

Immediate Source of Acquisition: Donated by Dr John Logan to the University of Limerick on 7 June 2002.

 

CONTENT AND STRUCTURE

Scope and Content: This small collection contains routine correspondence and accounts created and generated by Maxwell, Weldon & Co. on behalf of their clients, mainly pertaining to probate, death duties and other testamentary matters.

Appraisal, Destruction and Scheduling Information: All records have been retained.

Accruals: No accruals are expected.

System of Arrangement: No original order of the material was discernible at the time of receipt of the collection.  Consequently, the material was divided into three series by client.  Within each sub-series, documents have been arranged chronologically by date.

Related Units of Description: These documents were originally found among the Coote Papers (P10).  As no discernible connection between Maxwell, Weldon & Co. and the Coote family could be identified, the documents were listed as a separate entity.
