After a career spanning 40 years at the University of Limerick, Thomond College and the National Coaching and Training Centre, which included 18 years as Director, Library & Information Services, Gobnait O’Riordan retired in January.
Her remarkable vision and transformative leadership directed library services and collections into the digital age and she was instrumental in delivering the outstanding Glucksman Library - beloved by UL students, one of the most innovative libraries in Ireland and one which stands out internationally. She was UL’s first Web Editor with responsibility for launching UL’s first website.
Gobnait was a member of the IUA Librarians Group that established IReL, the Irish Research Electronic Library and the first network of Irish Institutional Repositories. She also served as President of the Library Association of Ireland from 2003-2005.
