In advance of Open Access week 2022, the Glucksman Library is pleased to announce the launch of a new institutional repository, Research Repository on 20 October 2022.
The new repository further embeds our commitment and support for Open Science by making available to researchers’ and their collaborators’ a space for all their Open Access research outputs including, increased functionality to support different media types and to provide separate, custom-branded spaces for books, conference contributions, journal contributions, and more
The original repository, ULIR, launched in 2008 and was a pillar of the University’s support for Open Science. ULIR was primarily a publications repository, which made Open Access the published work of UL faculty and researchers.
Research Repository, based on the Figshare platform, is available at researchrepository.ul.ie and will augment the existing repository functionality by including the facility to deposit and display data sets and other forms of research outputs including audio and visual materials.
All content from ULIR has now been migrated to the new Research Repository. The migration of historic statistics will follow later this autumn, ensuring no loss of information and that content is available long-term.
Content published in this new repository will benefit from Handles or Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for citing and sharing publicly and openly, while also offering controlled access options where appropriate. Researchers will also benefit from the repository’s Sherpa Romeo integration, which provides guidance on publishers’ policies on open access.
The UL Library has provided guides for researchers depositing content into the repository including best practices, FAQs, and guidance on which license is most appropriate. For more information on Figshare as an institutional repository, visit https://knowledge.figshare.com/institutions.
