John Moyles MSc, BSc, RPN, is an accomplished mental health nurse working in Sligo Leitrim Mental Health Services. He has extensive experience across adult community mental health and acute forensic mental health settings. John is particularly passionate about fostering patient-centred care and building therapeutic relationships, which are core principles of his teaching and clinical practice.

John’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychiatric Nursing from Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, where he was recognised with a Special Academic Achievement Award in 2019. He completed his MSc in Nursing – Psychosocial Interventions in Mental Health Care at the University of Limerick in 2022, earning first-class honours. His research on rebuilding therapeutic relationships following physical restraint has been internationally recognised and published in the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing.

In addition to his clinical and academic work, John is an experienced educator and mentor. He has regularly delivered lectures and presentations to students and colleagues and presented his research at national and international conferences, including both the Trinity Health and Education International Research Conference and the ULHG Nursing & Midwifery Research & Innovation Conference in 2024.

Committed to bridging the gap between academia and clinical practice, John recently completed a postgraduate module in Early Intervention for First Episode Psychosis at Atlantic Technological University. He is also the Health & Safety Representative for his mental health team, demonstrating leadership in risk management and compliance. John’s passion for education, research, and patient-centred care is central to his work and teaching philosophy, inspiring the next generation of mental health professionals.
