
Mary Russell is a registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner with Clare Psychiatry of Later Life team.
Mary graduated from UL in 2007 with a BSc in Mental Health Nursing. She completed a postgraduate diploma in nursing, Rehabilitation of the older person in 2010 and completed an MSc in nursing, Rehabilitation of the older person in 2011. Mary has extensive experience working in psychiatry of later life care since qualifying from UL in 2007 in both inpatient and community care settings as staff nurse, clinical nurse specialist and currently as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
Mary completed a postgraduate certificate in nurse prescribing at UL in 2023. She completed a postgraduate certificate in advanced nursing practice at UL in 2024. She is currently enrolled to complete European Certificate in Palliative care at Milford Education Centre. Her clinical area of speciality is general hospital and nursing home care liaison psychiatry assessments for older persons. Mary provides a full episode of care from hospital assessments through to discharge planning and community follow up care. This role includes triaging referrals, completing holistic mental health assessments, nurse prescribing, referring to other services, and implementing follow up care- planning. Mary aims to provide a truly integrated approach to person centred care for the older person optimising their physical and mental health well- being and enhancing their journey of care.
Central to Mary’s role is contributing to research, education and service development where her interests include dementia care and delirium management, therapeutic connections in mental health nursing, advancing nursing practice and the promotion of collaborative integration of care services for older persons.
