Yvonne Tier is the Advanced Midwife Practitioner (AMP) in Supported Care in the University Maternity Hospital Limerick (UMHL). Her professional career began when she qualified as a general nurse in 2007, specialised in Orthopaedic nursing in 2011, qualified as a midwife in 2012 and most recently registered as an Advanced Midwife Practitioner (AMP) with NMBI in January 2022. Most of her studies and academic qualifications have been attained in the University of Limerick.

Yvonne practices at a higher level of capability as an independent, autonomous and expert advanced practitioner.  The overall purpose of her role is to provide safe, timely, evidenced based midwife-led care to women and babies. She is the lead professional for a specific caseload of women- those of normal risk but with one previous, uncomplicated caesarean section. Women attending the service benefit from continuity of carer throughout their pregnancy. Additionally, her role is focused on the promotion and development of the Supported Care Pathway at UMHL and championing pregnancy, labour and birth as a normal physiological process.

Central to her role is contributing to midwifery research that helps shape and advance midwifery practice, education and health care policy at local, national and international levels. Her professional influence can be seen in clinical practice through education (formal and informal), mentoring and coaching in the multidisciplinary team, e.g. teaching sessions, journal clubs and case reviews.
