All Undergraduate courses at the University of Limerick (UL) offer entry for mature student applicants through the CAO*.

Below are the course specific mature applicant requirements for all of the undergraduate programmes at University of Limerick. You can find a course by pressing "ctrl" and "f" at the same time or using "Find on Page" for your browser.

 Mature applicants can apply to UL without having formal secondary level exams or points. 

*with exception of Certificate in Music and Dance and Certificate/Diploma in Equine Science.

Late Applications

Applicants applying after February 1st should check if the course(s) you are interested in are accepting late application on the admissions website.

  1. Which subject areas would you be most interested in pursuing from second year of the programme? Give one or two subjects.

Language Requirements

As part of the programme, students will be studying and communicating through French. Students should be able to demonstrate being able to do the following in French: 

  • Comfortably talk about school, work, home, etc.
  • Travel and perform day to day tasks while living in a French speaking country. 
  • Talk in more detail and give opinions on personal interests and hobbies.
  • Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
(Level B1- CEFR Reference Scale)

Please limit your application statement to 1000 words maximum. As part of your statement of interest, you can use the below questions to guide you:

  • What topics/ subjects are you most interested in learning about? Why?
  • During the programme you may have several deadlines close together alongside studying and presentations. What can you do to balance these with personal commitments?
  • As a mature student, what unique insights and perspectives do you think you can bring to the programme? How will you share these with your peers?
  • The Bachelor of Law in Common and Civil Law has a 2 year study abroad period as a mandatory part of the degree. How will you balance this requirements with other personal commitments?

Portfolio Entry

  • You must submit a Digital Portfolio or mini project to show your interest and aptitude in Product Design. The Admissions office in the University of Limerick will contact you once you have applied through the CAO regarding how to submit your Portfolio or Mini Project. You can find portfolio examples and mini project details for last year on the course page.
  • You must submit a signed printed declaration stating the following to the CAO Office in Galway:

For BSc in Social Sciences, your cover letter should be:

  • 1 Single Sided A4 Page (300 to 500 words)
  • include your CAO number
  • Have "LM180 Diploma/Certificate Equine Science (CAO Number)" as the title

Subject Requirements

  • Minimum F6 or above in Foundation Maths or Equivalent.  A special Maths exam is held by UL if you do not have any certificates in Maths: Special Entrance Mathematics Examination | University of Limerick
  • H4 or equivalent in one of the following: Physics, Chemistry, Physics with Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Applied Maths.

Additional Requirements

  • Students should have a reasonable level of skill in riding and/or experience working with horses.

 Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have experience in at least one area of music and/or dance.
  • Applicants will complete an interview, audition and a written assignment.

Application Requirements

  • Applicants will be contacted regarding the interview, assignment and audition.
  • Written Assignment: 800 to 1000 words on applicants experience of performing, practice, motivations and goals for studying.
  • Audition: Students may be asked to write about a recorded piece of music or dance as part of their audition.
