The next AHSS PhD Development Session is on ‘Using numbers and statistics in your thesis’. This session, given by Dr. Emily Murphy, Department of Sociology UL, will take place on Wednesday 9 April 2025 at 10.30am in the Kate O’Brien Room (C1-079). In this workshop you will be guided towards different ways of thinking about the use of numerical data in your research design, your research findings, and both academic and public presentations. It will cover how to effectively use numerical data to construct visual data plots, and how to align the use of numbers with conceptual frameworks.
The aim is to introduce you to useful examples from a range of studies across disciplines - including students’ qualitative theses from within Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences - and how they draw on statistics to enhance their research. Bring any questions from your own thesis work to tackle as a group. You are all very welcome to attend. It is also a great place to meet other AHSS Researchers and build on our AHSS PG community. Please fill out the Microsoft Forms document to register.. Any queries, please contact Dr. Niamh Lenahan.
