Professor Frank Barry, TCD will discuss his book "Industry and Policy in Independent Ireland, 1922-1972". The book revisits the history of industry from the birth of the Irish Free State to the eve of EEC accession. It surveys the evolution in industrial structure, presents new archival evidence on the determinants and consequences of policy, identifies the largest manufacturing employers in operation at key dates from the early 1900s onwards, and extends by more than 50 years the period for which estimates of the significance of foreign-owned industry in Ireland can be provided.
